AKA "MACIE"
It was a cold spring morning when Macie's mother Gracie stepped out of the empty whelping box. I had been up all night with her and she had failed to start into labour. Chris and I casually drove down to the vet clinic not really worried. After all Gracie was calm why shouldn't we be?
The vet ex-rayed her and we saw 5 puppies! But as we sat and discussed the pro's and conns it was decided to do a C-section. The OR was preped and I looked at Gracie feeling anxious. What if somethng happened to our girl? She was so good. Jumped right up onto the table and licked the Docs face completely while he administered the shots to put her out. The last thing she did was lick my cheek.
First out was a black tri girl she was blue and not doing well, then a black tri boy, he was a fighter and mad, soon followed by another black tri gilrl she was slow starting but she got there. The first girl is still not coming around the vets were work frantically on her? I would have been paniced but there was so many other puppies to consentrate on. Now another Black tri boy. He was still and lifeless...... Oh a cry there he goes! The last puppy. Its a girl. The only Blue Merle. She's handed to me. There is no heart beat. I rub and rub, nothing. We suck out the air ways and rub faster and harder. NOTHING. The first puppy has died. I stop consentrating to look over at our little girl who didn't make it. I feel a tug at my heart. Something moved in my hands. Oh gosh the little merle girl in my hand is breathing!!
When we are finished we had 2 Black Tri boys 1 Black Tri Girl and a Blue Merle girl. They placed the puppies next to their mom who is starting to wake up. As I sat in the crate with her I noticed the little blue merle girl wander blindly up to her moms face tongue out and start to lick her. "Yep she's her Mothers daughtet"!
